Project Goals

The Colorado Horse Racing Association came to YellowDog needing more than a new website — they needed a full brand refresh. Starting from a new logo designed by the YellowDog team, I led the UX design and full development of a site that would present a modern, welcoming face for the organization and move well past the tired stereotypes often associated with the industry.

Process

I began with a research phase, reviewing horse racing association websites from across the country to identify what was working and what was missing. The design direction I developed emphasised speed, movement, and Colorado’s state colours, while deliberately steering away from clichéd imagery. Community values — teamwork, volunteerism, and shared passion — were placed at the centre of the visual and editorial approach.

Beyond the core site, I built a members portal where members can list their services, locations, and skills to support one another. An events calendar was added to surface upcoming races, board meetings, and volunteer opportunities.

Outcomes

The Colorado Horse Racing Association now has a site that represents who they actually are — a forward-looking, community-driven organisation. Membership has grown since launch, and the site has become a genuine hub for the association’s activities.
