Humane Colorado – Website Build & Rebrand

Client

Humane Colorado

Live Site

Project Goals

Humane Colorado needed a complete rebrand and website rebuild, timed to a hard launch deadline with coordinated media announcements. The new site had to introduce their updated identity, integrate a live event calendar, and surface real-time pet adoption listings pulled from an external data provider — all while the project remained confidential until the moment of launch.

Process

Working from provided design files, I implemented the full front-end across a custom Timber/Twig theme. The project ran under strict confidentiality through its development phase, with the public launch synchronised to planned media coverage — a constraint that required careful staging and deployment discipline to execute cleanly.

The pet adoption listing system was the most technically distinctive element of the build. Data is supplied by a third-party provider without a standard API, which required a creative approach to refresh timing and data handling. The adoption listings were designed to be visually flexible — gracefully handling variations in the data, displaying correctly whether or not photos, descriptions, or other details were included for a given animal. I was responsible for all front-end styling of the adoption system.

An event calendar integration was built to allow the team to manage and promote upcoming events without developer involvement. WCAG 2 accessibility was implemented throughout, including skip navigation and focus management, and the site was fully QA’d across device sizes ahead of the launch date.

Outcomes

Humane Colorado launched on schedule in 2025, with the rebrand and media announcement landing simultaneously as planned. The adoption listings and event calendar have been in active use since launch, supporting the organisation’s core mission of connecting animals with adopters and the community with their events.
